Vision
Where It Counts

 

Jeffrey George has vision where it counts. He plans to continue the collaborative, service-oriented work he started in his first term and take actionable steps to improve every aspect of life in the Hub City. 


Infrastructure

  • Will advocate to continue prioritizing spending on paving and working to increase the City’s paving budget annually

  • Work to expand pedestrian multi-use pathways and sidewalk infrastructure across Ward 1 and throughout our city, with a specific focus on adding sidewalks on Hardy Street, W. 4th Street, 7th Street, and N. 31st Avenue in the Highlands Neighborhood

  • Will continue to work to increase the quality of street lighting around Ward 1, along with advocating to expand lighting on the Longleaf Trace from W. 7th Street to the Jackson Road Station and along other spurs of the Longleaf Trace

  • Continue to increase spending on drainage improvement projects throughout our neighborhoods 


Education 

  • Support the city’s many existing partnerships with Hattiesburg Public School District and continue work to expand opportunities for collaboration on education initiatives and construction projects

  • Continue offering strong support for the University of Southern Mississippi and working with students to improve the quality of their experience in Hattiesburg

  • Continue Hattiesburg’s current partnership with Pearl River Community College to provide financial support for Hattiesburg’s students and residents have access to workforce education and training certifications


Public Safety 

  • Committed to continued investment in public safety, including training, resources, and facilities necessary to allow Hattiesburg Police and Fire Departments to better serve our community

  • Work with the Hattiesburg Police Department and the Police Review Board to improve community relations and to develop policies and procedures to strengthen trust between the community and HPD


City Services

  • Continue to provide the highest level of service by maintaining my record of getting things done and working with city administration and directors to take care of problems when citizens call

  • Serve as a continued advocate for Ward 1 by ensuring all citizen concerns are quickly and effectively communicated to the administration and department directors

  • Increase availability, frequency, and quality of Hub City Transit routes and invest in new buses and bus stops across Ward 1

  • Increase the use of technology within our city government in order to allow us to more efficiently and effectively provide city services to all of Hattiesburg


Fiscal Responsibility 

  • Ensure the city continues to responsibly manage its budget and complete audits in a timely manner

  • Work with the Mayor and the City Council in future budgets to set aside a rainy-day fund for emergencies that cause revenue losses (such as COVID or a natural disaster)

  • Continue to make strategic investments in equipment, personnel, and facilities that promote improved service and opportunities for the the citizens of Hattiesburg
