In 2017, at the age of 23, Jeffrey became Hattiesburg’s youngest ever City Council member.

“When I first arrived on Southern Miss’s campus, I quickly learned that Hattiesburg is a place that welcomes creativity, fosters leadership, and prioritizes progress,” said George. “Early on, the people here inspired me to be an engaged citizen that is invested in the future of our city. First as student leader and now on the City Council, I’ve been energized to make a positive difference for my community.”

In his first term, Jeffrey prioritized transparency, fiscal responsibility, infrastructure, public safety, investment in city personnel, and community service.

In Ward One, he has fought to complete projects and resolve issues. Along with the City Council, Jeffrey has helped balance budgets, pave roads, and pass legislation to improve education partnerships, public safety and city services. He has prioritized building relationships with residents across every neighborhood in Ward 1, which he believes allows him to better serve and represent our community. Jeffrey’s most visible accomplishment— North 38th Avenue’s redevelopment which included a new sidewalk, lighting, landscaping and paving improvements— showcases his passion to make Hattiesburg a better place to work, learn, and live. Aside from his role on the City Council, Jeffrey serves as the Director of Marketing and Business Development for Mike Rozier Construction, where he is responsible for managing the development of real estate projects from acquisition to construction. He also coordinates the work of MRC’s architects, engineers, and attorneys. “Working in construction and real estate development gives me experience that helps me serve Ward 1,” Jeffrey said. “Coordinating the actions of several different entities and interests, all for a common goal, is something that project development, marketing, and civil service all have in common.”

“My love for Hattiesburg began as a love for Southern Miss,” Jeffrey said.

Jeffrey moved to Hattiesburg in 2012 to pursue a B.S. in Political Science, a minor in marketing, and, subsequently, an M.S. in Economic Development. During his time at Southern Miss, Jeffrey served two terms as President of the Student Government Association and one term as President of the IHL Mississippi Student Body Presidents’ Council. He was also active in his fraternity, Pi Kappa Phi, where he now serves as alumni advisor. A fervent Golden Eagle, Jeffrey continues to support his alma mater as a lifetime member of the Alumni Association, a member of the Eagle Club and Dugout Club, and a member of the IFC Alumni Advisory Committee.

For Jeffrey, service is the most effective form of leadership.

Jeffrey volunteers for the United Way of Southeast Mississippi Board; further, he is an active member of the Area Development Partnership, Pine Belt Young Professionals, and the Highlands Neighborhood Association. He actively campaigned to win Ward 1’s support for our school bond renewal, the 1-cent for parks and recreation and to encourage participation in the 2020 Census. “Hattiesburg is my home,” Jeffrey said, adding, “ I’m here to make the Hub City a stronger, healthier community with each passing year.”

Jeffrey is engaged to Ms. Kimber Atwell, a fellow USM alumni. Together, they enjoy taking on home improvement projects and playing with their dog, Decker. Jeffrey and Kimber will be married on July 17, 2021.
